FFA Banquet

April 19:

Miss E had a very good FFA banquet this year.  She got the Chapter FFA Degree, a top award for high grades in her plant class, a gold award for her ag production-entreprenuership proficiency award, and top points for the sophomore class award.  She was also elected Secretary for next year's officers.

DMC

 April 18:

DMC this year changed to Milford and had vocal music the 18th and band music the 19th.  Miss E had a duet (1), a quartet (2), full group (2), and a solo (1).

Miss A had been dealing with a nasty cold, so she scratched out of her solo, but sang in a quartet (2) and full choir.

Miss E performed in the band performance the next day, having volunteered to take C's parts in the band, which got a 2.

A Day of Death & New Life

April 15:

This started April 11, when a classmate & friend of E's and friend of A's was in an awful vehicle accident.  He was sent to Children's hospital in Omaha.  By Sunday, he was declared brain dead and his family donated his organs on Monday.  He was a good kid, homeschooled, but had been participating in band and choir since middle school and track/cross country.  He was to be "The Beast" in the school's upcoming musical of "Beauty and the Beast," where both girls have parts.  April 15 was spent by the high school kids doing things like decorating his parking spot and wearing gold & blue (his favorite colors).

His funeral was Monday, April 22, and lots of kids and teachers/coaches came, including the girls and I.

On the same day as he died, my 3rd great-niece was born.  Remi joins her sisters, Nora, and Lila.  So, there was some happiness that day despite the loss.

Conference Trap

April 13:

One of the few conference traps we could make it to this year.  She drug G along with us and then he hung around while she washed one of her calves after we got back.

Solar Eclipse Day

 April 8:

Partial solar eclipse in our area.  The middle school kids had activites in the afternoon and got the opportunity to observe the partial solar eclipse.

Senior Prom

 April 6:

Miss A's senior prom.  She went with a friend.  It was horribly windy, so pictures were taken in a very small area, which didn't really work nearly as well as the steps of the Courthouse.  It POURED rain in between pictures and the start of prom, so the parade was moved inside the fairgrounds building.  That was the first time that had happened in a long time or ever, not sure which.  It had a few flaws but it worked. Afterward, Miss A and her date didn't go to the after-prom party, there was several reasons for that.  They came home after the dance and went with some friends to do their own thing the next afternoon to York to have brunch and swim.

Miss E didn't get to go to this prom, but still managed to get pictures of her friends.
