BB Tournament and Hunter's Safety

Saturday, Feb 4:

Was a pretty full day for us.  We started with going to IC's basketball tournament in Superior.  The boys won the 1st game, which put them in the championship finals for 7th grade (the 8th graders also won their game).  The 2nd game didn't go as well, and they lost, bringing them to 2nd place in the 7th grade tournament. (The 8th grade boys won their 2nd game, so they got first in the 8th grade division.)  IC was upset they didn't win, but I thought that getting 2nd place was so much better than last and we were happy they got 2nd!

While we were watching IC, Miss A was back at home, getting certified in hunter's safety.  She had to take two evening classes and then finish out on Saturday, so my mom took her to class and picked her up.  After we got home, it was time to have a little shooting practice.  Miss A would like to be on the trap team, with IC.  She's not very strong, so she will have to work at it.  It was nice to see IC and Miss A working together instead of fighting for once.

IC's Sword

Friday, Feb. 3:

This the the sword that IC made BY HIMSELF.  It's actually made out of wood, that he shaped and sanded on for most of the week.  He then glued, painted and covered the handle in twine and the sword in tin covering to represent a Roman sword for history class.  I had to bring it to school for him, since it might be considered a weapon, but he did a great job on it!

First Win

Thursday, Jan. 26:

This was the boys' first win in basketball.  They played against Harvard, and were evenly matched teams.

IC's First JH Game

Monday, Jan. 23:

Finally, the boys got to start their Junior High basketball season!  After their first 2 games were postponed due to that ice storm, the boys, unfortunately got slammed by a tough team.  The 8th grade boys also lost.  It was a hard game and the boys still have a lot to learn about working together.

Millenium Falcon

Sunday, January 22:

Miss A got her Lego Millenium Falcon completely put together that she got on Friday for her birthday.  She loves Legos.

Miss A's Birthday

Thursday, Jan 19 - Saturday, Jan. 21:

Miss A had a weekend of birthday celebration for her 11th birthday.

Thursday, Jan. 19:
She took cupcakes to school for her pride group for snacks.  Fridays are game of the week, so she didn't want to run out of time to eat, so she took them a day early.  I baked them, but she decorated them herself.

Friday, Jan 20:
Miss A's actual birthday.  She got to open her 2 presents before school, which she was pretty happy with.

That evening, my parents invited us to eat at Bubba's for both my dad's and Miss A's birthday.  (Dad's birthday is January 19.)  So, we brought Miss A's cake to eat for dessert.  She likes minecraft, so I made a minecraft cake-not fancy, but she liked it anyway.

Saturday, January 21:

Miss A invited some friends to go play laser tag and arcade games in Lincoln, and then we had ice cream and presents at the Dairy Queen afterwards.  The kids had a lot of fun and it was a tiring, but fun afternoon.

Ice Storm

Sunday and Monday, January 15 & 16:

The youth group didn't get to go to the One Event in Salina on Saturday because of they would have had to drive home in this mess on Sunday.  The ice started Saturday night and already Sunday it was slick enough to call off church and E bunny's basketball game.  We lost 6 big loaders full of broken limbs from our poor trees-the Chinese elms being the hardest hit.  There will definitely be less shade from them come summer!  We were lucky that none broke through the roof.  School was also called off Monday, cancelling IC's first basketball game for the season.  It was slick and I don't think I have ever seen the ice so thick on the ground!

Monday night, the girls made tree forts out of the collapsed large branches.  They got to keep those for a couple of days.

School was also cancelled Tuesday, to give time for things to warm up enough to melt the ice.  It was beautiful Tuesday morning, but still very slick.

Middle School Dance

Friday, January 13:

The annual Middle School dance,  sponsored by the FBLA, took place at the old gym downtown.  This was Miss A's first dance.  The kids both had a pretty good time.

First Game of the Season

Sunday, Jan 8:

Miss E started her first basketball season for GAED at home.  The girls' team consists of 11 players.  They are pretty good at defense, but struggle with offense.  They still have fun, though, and that's what counts!
