It's been a full year, with promises for next year to keep up that pace! Miss A is having a day at grandma's today, and Ellie goes tomorrow. After IC's basketball practice on Saturday, we are headed to Lincoln to do some hunting equipment shopping. IC's first basketball game is slated for Sunday already and after that, we are back to our regular schedule.
We took the tree down yesterday, and frankly, that was great! It freed up major space in the livingroom, of which we have very little to spare. We have plans to raise Miss A's bed in her room to add a little space there and we also have several projects coming up inside and outside.
I am hoping January will get better health-wise, with the hope that E bunny's tummy issues finally get resolved.
We shall see.

Ready to Hunt!
It is now legal for IC to hunt with JJ, he earned both his hunter's and bow hunter's safety certificates on Monday!
First Sewing Project
I admit that we we've been lazy a lot this Christmas vacation. But, hey, it's vacation!! So, instead of going to church on Sunday (there's no Sunday School for 2 weeks anyway), we stayed home. The girls have been bugging me for a sewing project, so that's what I did with the girls. We did pin cushions with felt, sewn by hand. It went pretty well. Except, now I've really got a couple of sewing monsters-they want to work on making pillows next!

Saturday's Happenings
Saturday, I took IC to his hunter's safety course and then went back home to be with the girls. E was still down and draggy, Miss A was a little draggy, but was better after some Motrin for her headache. E was better enough to finish her Lego jungle thingy. I went to eat with IC during lunch time and the girls stayed home with Daddy for dinner. The girls and I went back to pick him up in the afternoon and I was able to get a few groceries, since the kids are eating me out of house and home (when they aren't being sick)!
E bunny finally got her Lego jungle thingy finished on Saturday. Since she's been sick, she hadn't felt like doing it, but she finally perked up enough to work on it with a little help from Miss A.

The Day After Christmas
Unfortunately, this was the scene the morning after Christmas. Two down for the count. Miss A got up with a low temp, headache and tummy ache. After dinner, she did a lot better the rest of the day. E bunny was still dragging around. It takes her longer to recover, plus she is still having tummy issues that won't go away. By evening, they were both doing and acting better. The older 2 were able to coerce Daddy to play some of the new games after supper.
Despite the illness, IC's been working on his legos. He got done with box #1 and started on the second box on this day! He loves this project and has only had a couple of incidents that were frustrating.

Christmas Day
Christmas Day dawned at a wonderful time-7:30 am! I heard E bunny tripping down the stairs at that time and went out to the livingroom to discover that Miss A was sleeping on the rocking chair! Turns out she woke at 4:30 am but decided to camp down on the chair and not wake the rest of us-YAY! Actually, IC had asked what time we could get up that morning, and my answer was not before 7 am! The girls ended up having to go wake IC up-he was still sound asleep!
Even Lucy got something from Santa!
Each of the kids got 1 bigger gift from us-Legos! IC got the Star Wars death star, E bunny got a Lego Friends Jungle set and Miss A got her Lego Friends dolphin and boat set. She worked at that until she had it put together by mid-day. This was the first time she put together a big set almost completely by herself. She did great!
My favorite gift from the kids was Olaf. Isn't he cute?
Unfortunately, by mid morning, E bunny was down for the count and feeling crummy. Since she had a slight temp, I figured she'd gotten IC's flu. She wasn't able to enjoy our roasted duck and mashed potatoes that I had made for dinner. The rest of the family did enjoy it though. It was the first time we'd ever had duck.
Instead of electronics this year, the kids each got a new board game to play. I don't like a lot of electronic time and since attitudes have declined this year-decided it was time to get some things that promoted the kids interacting with each other, instead of a screen. Call me old-fashioned.

Christmas Eve
Christmas eve was also spent at home, until it was time to do chores and get cleaned up for Christmas Eve service. We went to service at my parents' church and then went to have Christmas eve supper with them and open gifts afterward.
The kids did well again and always enjoy time with my parents. We watched a movie for awhile after the gifts, before deciding to head home.
At bedtime, Miss A got the privilege of reading "Twas the Night Before Christmas." After that, I read the Nativity story. Since it was fairly late for the kids, they went off to sleep pretty quickly, making it easier for me to get things ready for Christmas Day.

More Eats!
Tuesday, we worked on chex mix and puppy chow. Despite a few small arguments, it went well.
If you are wondering what we did the rest of the time-there was a lot of nothing going on! I allowed the kids a little more computer/TV time as they just needed the rest from our crazy life. I let them sleep in and just free play most of the time. We just really have been enjoying not going anywhere!

Game Time and Good Eats!
One of the gifts we got from the grandparents the day before was Connect 4. E bunny caught Daddy before he went out to chore for a game. The kids had a BLAST with this game throughout the day. It's a fast game, so you can play several times and they just loved it. We also received Scrabble, which the kids and I played in the afternoon. Definitely not as fun or fast! But, we worked together and enjoyed it, also.
After dinner, it was time to work on our annual Christmas treats. First up, we dipped pretzels. The kids always love to do this and this year, we didn't get a TON of candies/colored sugar on the floor-it was great!

1st Christmas Gathering
Sunday, the 21st, was Christmas at the Janings. After dinner, was present-opening. E bunny got a bb gun of her own from her cousins and Miss A got her much-wanted skateboard from her cousins. IC got some gift cards to spend. The kids had a good time and did well.
Miss A even let IC try out her new skateboard.

Making Ornaments
With the start of Christmas break, it was time to do some of the things we haven't had time to work on. First up, making ornaments. We have been making a few ornaments of our own for a couple of years now. Last year, we painted the insides. This year, IC melted crayons on the inside, while E bunny and Miss A painted the outsides with paint pensand filled theirs with tinsel. We had a couple break and then we dripped red crayon on the floor, but all in all, the kids had fun and made some nice ornaments.

Illnesses
Christmas break officially started yesterday afternoon. I was in Miss A's class at noon for their Christmas party. I did a snowman craft with the kids while the other mom had a relay race. After school, we headed home. IC wasn't feeling the best, but then appeared to snap out of it later on.
I didn't think much about it until he was throwing up at 12:45 am! Ugh-I had just cleaned the house and washed all the bedding that morning. He is doing better this morning, but has a slight temp.
We have been dealing with illnesses on and off all month. E bunny and I were sick the first weekend in December with the flu. She got sick again the next weekend.
Then, she has had tummy pain on and off since then that we haven't been able to keep away for more than a day or two at a time. It is a frustrating battle right now.

Cute quote
On Thursday, the 18th, E bunny and Miss A were headed outside to play when the fuel truck pulled in to fill one of the bulk gas tanks. I distinctly heard E bunny say,"That's gas-o-fuel." Interesting, E. I believe you combined diesel fuel and gas together to make one word!
Holiday Dance Showcase
Right after the church's Christmas program, we cleaned things up and then headed to York for the girls' dance program.
It was a nice program, about an hour, 20 minutes and each of the classes did one short dance. The girls looked great and did a great job!

Church Christmas Program
Last program for the year!!! We concluded our crazy 2 weeks of Christmas programs with our church's Christmas program. I was in charge of it again this year and plan not to do it again.
IC sang in the 5/6th grade Revelations choir and played the bells for 1 song ( I directed the bell's part)and played the guitar for another song. Miss A was Mary and sang/played in the Spirit Singers choir. E bunny sang in the Kids of the Kingdom choir. The kids did a great job!

School Christmas Program #3
The 2nd week of December I only subbed on Thursday and Friday (only!) I spent the week working to finish things for the Christmas program at church and catching up from the previous week.
Miss A's Christmas program was Friday, the 12th. Her's was 30 minutes long and she got to play an instrument during one of the songs.
